Let’s Take a Journey…..

a journey that reveals how Kendra’s Cakes began.

LET’S share my story

My Mom is an awesome baker. My childhood always had a dessert prepared to grace our table right after dinner. “What’s for dessert?” was a question she heard quite often. I can’t say I always grabbed a stool and placed it right beside my Mom to participate in making these creations, but it is certain I sure loved each one! I am very thankful to have her by my side to see this dream become a reality! Thanks, Mom!

I got married in my early twenties and had our first son five years later. When he turned three, I had a desire to create his birthday cake. A Dalmatian cake. With no training, I bought the cake pan and followed the directions precisely. My husband was impressed. With that compliment, I felt overly excited. Character cake pans filled my cabinets after that.

But it wasn’t until seven years later that my husband suggested that I take a Wilton cake decorating class to obtain a more varied skill set. I hesitated. A stay-at-home mom with now three small boys was my life. I didn’t have much time to spare. He thought it would be good for me to invest in myself! At his persistence, I signed up.

I took the basic Wilton course and by the end of several sessions, the instructor asked me if I would be interested in becoming a Wilton Cake Instructor. I declined, of course, for the reason I stated above. However, that same opportunity came back around a year or so later, and I took it! I taught Wilton cake decorating classes for over 10 years and instructed close to 1000 students during that time. I had a blast! Meeting new people and sharing my love for cake was a win-win!

While I no longer teach Wilton classes, I keep pushing myself to pursue my baking passion—doing it scared. But my story doesn’t end there. I have a vision to impart what I have learned in this business to the younger generation. To give them a place to express their talents whether it be in baking, artistry, or even social media. It takes many facets to keep this mixer stirring.

I Love This Man!

I owe this baking adventure mostly to my husband, Darren, who believes in me and kindly encourages me to keep pursuing my passion! We hope to meet you soon!
